The Auburn Police Division is investigating a single-vehicle accident that took the life of David Avery Smotherman, 38 of Opelika.
Emergency forces responded to a call on Tuesday morning at about 7 a.m. According to Auburn police, Smotherman lost control of the 2004 Honda CB600 motorcycle, crossed the opposing lane and struck a utility pole.
The accident occurred in the 300 block of West Veteran Boulevard. The Lee County Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Manning pronounced Smotherman dead at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
