Briggs & Stratton is opening a new distribution center in Auburn.

A new 400,000-square foot distribution center set to open in spring 2019 will bring 20 new jobs to Auburn.

Briggs & Stratton Corp. announced their plans for the manufacturing facility on Aug. 17. The distribution hub is coming less than a year after the expansion of the company's manufacturing facility.

The announcement in 2017 introduced the production of the Vanguard engines.

“I’m encouraged to see Briggs & Stratton expand again in Alabama because I know that means that they are finding all the ingredients they need for success right here in our state,” said Governor Kay Ivey. “This represents a powerful endorsement from a leading manufacturer and shows once again that we are open for business.”

According to Made in Alabama, the Auburn center is part of Briggs & Stratton's plan to consolidate the smaller operations into two larger operations.

“By consolidating our current footprint into two large distribution centers, we’re increasing efficiencies to more effectively serve our customers,” said Bill Harlow, director of global distribution and warehousing at Briggs & Stratton.

The company began working in Auburn in 1995 and is one of Auburn's largest industrial employers. The company employs more than 430 workers.
