The Auburn University Alumni Association is seeking nominations for four board of directors members.

Those nominated must be lifetime members of the Auburn Alumni Association.

Candidates selected will be installed this fall and will each serve a four-year term. The deadline for nominations is March 31.

“After nominations are received, the nominating committee will meet on April 19, 2008 to provide their recommendation,” said Debbie Shaw, vice president for alumni affairs and executive director of the Auburn Alumni Association. “Their recommendation will then be presented to the entire board and they will then take action.”

According to the Alumni Association’s Web site, www.aualum.org, nominees should be willing to serve as volunteers.

Candidates should exhibit leadership, actively promote Auburn University through local Auburn clubs or similar activities, contribute to Auburn either financially or by volunteering their time and have experienced successful careers.

Those selected would be asked to attend three board of directors meetings in Auburn.

The association’s presence is strong among students.

Marc Manning, a sophomore in agricultural communications, said he appreciates the work of the Auburn Alumni Association and feels it plays an important role on campus.

“I have a lot of respect for the alumni association and the work they do,” Manning said. “It is great to see the passion and commitment our alumni have to current students.”

Auburn’s Alumni Association is well respected and has great support among alumni.

“Our alumni association has about 47,000 members, representing approximately 27 to 28 percent of our alumni,” Shaw said. “This percentage is the highest among the SEC.”

The success of the association could be attributed to its efforts to continue recruiting alumni.

One upcoming event is a special tailgate for the A-Day game March 29.

Minority alumni of Auburn University are invited to attend the special tailgate hosted prior to the game.

This tailgate is held annually to help connect minority alumni with Auburn and each other.

The tailgate will begin at 11 a.m. and attendees will be eligible for numerous door prizes. The cost is $5 in advance and $10 at the door.

More information about submitting nominations for the board of directors or the A-Day tailgate can be found at www.aualum.org.

According the association’s Web site, its mission is to strengthen the relationship between Auburn University and it’s alumni and friends; to preserve and promote the University’s traditions, purposes, growth and development; and to keep alive the spirit of affection and reverence for our alma mater.
