Video games have come a long way since the original Nintendo. Auburn’s ace gamers are ready, are you?
The Auburn University Computer Gaming Club will be taking on all challengers as it hosts Tiger LAN 14 at the exhibit lounge in Foy Union April 12-13.
The AUCGC, in its 11th year as an on-campus organization, will have several choices for gamers, offering a variety of tournaments for its overnight marathon event.
Gregory Olson, known by his gamer tag “Crazy Jimmy,” public relations chair and sophomore in pre-computer science, said they will have something for everyone.
“We have one tournament for each of the consoles, for the PC we have single first-person shooter, team first-person shooter and a real-time strategy tournament,” Olson said.
The semi-annual event will play games on several formats, including the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2 and Xbox 360.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own consoles to ensure a space.
“We try to spread out (tournaments) so people can actually play in all of them if they want,” President Samuel “D.I.E.” Kerr said.
Kerr, a junior in industrial engineering, said he expects 50 to 100 people to attend.
Tiger LAN 14 will also offer a special tournament as a memorial for the organization’s founder and first president, Ryan “Stick” Stich. Stich died in November 2006 in a traffic collision.
“Stick’s memorial is a random game that older members said he would enjoy,” Olson said. “We’re going to try to do that every Tiger LAN in his honor.”
The event starts Saturday at noon; admission is $5 at the door and $5 to join all tournaments.
Door prizes will be raffled off as well as prizes for the winners of each tournament.
Non-tournament play will also be available. Snacks and energy drinks will be supplied to help participants stay awake.
The AUCGC meets every Friday in Haley Center Room 3223 from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m.
Cries of “I killed Gun Hog!” heard through the halls at these hours need not be paid attention to.
Gun Hog will get him back in due time.
