As kids, some guys look forward to the day they can grow a little goatee on their chin. Other guys look forward to the first time they can shave it off.
Either way, girls and guys alike have opinions on how much facial hair guys should have.
Every once in awhile some guys like to give their Gillette Fusion razor a rest and grow a little scruff.
Other guys haven’t seen a razor since that infamous shaving lesson they got from dad when they were 14.
Then there are those who never take a break, keeping the clean-shaven, razor commercial look all the time.
However, the real question is not what the guy’s prefer, it’s what do Auburn girls think about a scruffy man?
“I like a little bit of facial hair,” said Whitney Newman, a senior in communications. “Not a full beard or anything, and it needs to be neatly trimmed. Although if a guy’s beard comes in splotchy then no, just ... no.”
Other girls say no to the beard all the time.
“I just think it looks unkempt,” said Adrienne Haren, a sophomore in business. “I like a guy that will take the time to make himself look nice—a guy that looks like he takes care of himself.”
Most guys, however, have a different outlook.
“I hate shaving,” said Scott Campbell, a senior in criminology. “I usually do before I go to work, or when I have an interview or something. I take a break though between those things.”
Most guys seem to have no idea which look girls tend to go for.
“Some girls like it, some don’t, I guess,” said Stephen Holmes, a junior in building science. “I don’t know!”
However, Holmes does try to keep a nice appearance.
“I don’t really like to shave because it’s a hassle, but I do it pretty often just because I know it looks nicer,” he said.
Most students do agree guys should always shave before a job interview.
“It just makes you look like you care a little more,” Holmes said. “It gives you a more professional look.”
So while the verdict is still out on whether facial hair is in or out, there does seem to be one consensus:
“Keep it looking nice no matter what,” Newman said. “Even if you have a little goatee, keep it trimmed up. It makes a huge difference.”
