Seven new strangers have been picked to live in a house and have their lives taped for the 20th season in a row.

MTV’s “The Real World” reality show is the network’s longest running series and returned for round number 20 April 16.

This latest season of the show was filmed in Hollywood, Calif., in a seven story, 105,000 square foot building.

Faithful fans of the show are excited about this season of seven fresh strangers.

“I think that ‘The Real World’ is so interesting and I can’t wait to see what unfolds this season,” said Allie Barlow, a freshman in business.

“There’s only been one episode, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a good one.”

The show, which has been on the air since 1992, features seven strangers from ages 18-25 who are selected out of thousands of applicants to live and work together for several months.

However, this season, fans of the show were allowed to select the seventh cast member through an Internet voting process.

According to MTV’s Web site, the fan-selected roommate is Greg from Daytona Beach, Fla.

Cast members come from a wide variety of socioeconomic, religious, sexual and educational backgrounds.

The differences among the roommates are what many believe the show’s drama stems from.

“When you put seven strangers in a house, there’s always going to be drama, especially when those people are all college age,” said Sarah Graham, a junior in animal and dairy sciences and pre-vet.

Cameras catch every moment of these roommate’s interactions with each other and the outside world.

That’s what makes the show so intriguing, is that there is never a moment not caught on tape,” said Becca Mikkelson, a freshman in fashion design. “You can’t do anything while on that show that won’t be for the whole nation to see soon.”

The roommates are required to wear microphones and do personal “confessionals” each week.

This season’s show, “The Real World XX: Hollywood,” stars four men and three women, each aspiring to make their dreams come true in Hollywood.

As hopeful actors, models and journalists, the seven cast members will individually pursue their own careers this season.

“It’s going to be very different with not all the roommates working together,” said Barlow.  “But I think it will be cool to see if any of their careers get a jump start from being on the show.”

“Real World Hollywood: Season XX” began airing April 16 and will continue until late August.
