Auburn soccer started the season off well this past weekend, winning games against UAB and Grambling State.

The Tigers won their season-opener Friday night, dominating the Grambling State, 9-0. Eight different Tigers scored, reaching the team’s record set in 2000.

Head Coach Karen Hoppa was happy with the way the team came out strong in the first game of the year.

“We scored three goals in the first 10 minutes to put the game away,” she said.

Auburn’s second game of the season wasn’t as lopsided, or as easy.

UAB came to Auburn and kept the game close, losing a nail bitter 1-0. Gabi Rivera fed Kara Kasten on a breakaway to score the game’s only goal in the 56th minute.

“Gabi gave me a great ball, and I was able to hold off the defenders and get a quality shot off,” Kasten said of scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal.

NEXT GAME: Auburn at Missouri, Friday, 6:30 p.m.
