Auburn came off the mat Saturday with a much-needed win over UT-Martin.
The win came on the heels of an embarrassing four-game losing streak with losses to perennial pushovers Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Ole Miss.
It was time for Auburn to get fat and happy off a weaker opponent in the Skyhawks. And it looked as if that might happen when Tristan Davis returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a first touchdown.
Instead, the offense had a hard time getting going, and the defense looked porous at times.
All this against UT-Martin.
I’m not saying the Skyhawks don’t deserve respect, but who would have thought Auburn would lead by only seven points at the half?
When the Tigers should have come out and stomped all over a weaker opponent, they instead kept them around the game.
Talent is not a question with Auburn, but the fire is not there.
And after losing four games in a row and seeing their season slip away, who can blame them?
When Georgia comes in Saturday, Auburn’s resiliency will be tested.
Tommy Tuberville needs to inspire this struggling team to give the effort this rivalry deserves.
His job may depend on it.

I completely agree...the
I completely agree...the team is lacking the passion we used to have and the winning desire...we play an undefeated Bama team in less than two weeks and I hope these guys can wake up and keep our Iron Bowl streak alive. It's all about heart and I'd like to see some of that...even with a crap season, we could turn this around if we beat Bama.November 26, 2008 - 2:23pm
Yeah, that's really Auburn's
Yeah, that's really Auburn's only claim to find - beating Alabama. In spite of its talent, Auburn just cannot deliver in terms of SEC championships and national championships. Auburn always fails to live up to expectations and then tries to make up for it by upsetting the Tide at the end of the season. It's sad really. Auburn football is little more than a chapter in the Alabama football's big book. Maybe one day Auburn will have its own story.
