Auburn swimmers go for gold

Cesar Cielo dives into the water. Cielo and Puninski are getting pumped for the Olympic Trials. Auburn will see nine of its swimmers competing in the games, although none will be representing the United State

Auburn is proud to be the current home of nine swimmers who will be competing in the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

They will not be swimming for the United States, but they will still be swimming as Auburn Tigers.

I will of course be rooting for all of them in the Olympics, because even though they are not representing the U.S., they are still representing Auburn University,” said Christine Sirna, a junior chemistry major and Tiger Splasher. “I will be wishing them nothing but great luck, and I am sure their countries, and all of Auburn will be extremely proud of their Olympic performances.”

Cesar Cielo will be making his first Olympic appearance swimming for Brazil. His main swimming focus is on sprint freestyle and butterfly.

Cielo’s goal for the Olympic Games is simply to swim faster than his current best times. He says in order to do this, he will need the perfect performance, which will include a great start, fast turns and a strong finish.

Unfortunately for Auburn, Cielo will not be returning after the games. He will swim professionally in Brazil.

Alexei Puninski will also be making his first Olympic appearance as he competes for Croatia. Puninski’s main strength is sprint freestyle.

“I am not nervous at all,” Puninski said. “I still have 43 days until my first race, so I am trying to focus and rest to prepare myself for the games.”

2008 NFL Mock Draft

NFL fans will get an early look at the future of their favorite franchises as the NFL Draft begins Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. on ESPN. Former Auburn standouts Quentin Groves, DE; Patrick Lee, CB and Pat Sims, DT have been projected as first day picks.

1. Dolphins - Chris Long, DE, Virginia
Great motor and a game-changer. A good pedigree (Howie Long’s son) doesn’t hurt.
2. Rams - Jake Long, OT, Michigan
The Rams need to shore up their O-Line in a bad way, Long is a big step in the right direction.
3. Falcons - Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College;

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays have released former Auburn Tiger Frank Thomas. The team said the deal with the 19-year veteran was “of mutual consent.” Thomas, now a designated hitter, has been slumping lately.

CINCINNATI — Bengals linebacker Odell Turman has been reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Thurman missed the 2006 and 2007 season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

10 Ways to Avoid ACNE

Avoid sun exposure; try to apply sunscreen everyday.

Drink plenty of water.

Don’t over wash your face. Over washing can cause the skin to produce excess oils and contribute to future breakouts.

Make sure the word “noncomedogenic” is on all of your face cleansers, moisturizers and make-up.

Wash your face in the morning and at night with warm water and a cleanser.

Don’t touch your face to keep dirt, oil, bacteria from your hands at bay.

Exfoliate once a week.

Be sure to moisturize after washing face.

Don’t forget your skin regimen, especially during the stress of finals, because psychological stress is proven to be linked to breakouts.

Wash your pillowcases once a week.
