Staff Opinion: Decisions, decisions, decisions

I am probably the worst decision-maker ever.

When it comes to buying shampoo and conditioner, I stand in the aisle for long periods of time meditating on which brand I should try next.

When it comes to choosing what to wear for important occasions (which does not happen on a daily basis thank goodness), I try on every outfit combination in my closet and my roommates’ closets and then seek their approval.

More than 5,000 students attended the concert. Pete Riley / PHOTO EDITOR

Last Wednesday night, the University Program Council brought Akon with special guest Soulja Boy to the Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum for the 2008 spring concert.

“Everything ran smooth,” said Michael Roeder, UPC director of major entertainment and a senior in zoology. “The show started on time and we did not have any security problems. We had some surprises, such as Akon going into the crowd, but the students went crazy when it happened.”

Akon cost the University’s student activities fund more than $76,000, which falls under UPC’s major entertainment budget.

Soulja Boy cost more than $30,000.

Roeder said that more than 5,000 tickets were given out; however, the Coliseum had a 7,000 maximum for the concert.

Admission to the concert was free to all Auburn University students. (click the read link for more photos)

Before spring break, the University Program Council announced Akon as the headliner for the 2008 spring concert.

After contracts were signed, UPC announced Soulja Boy as the opener for Akon.

Michael Roeder, director of major entertainment for UPC and a senior in zoology, said UPC will begin distributing tickets April 2 and continue through April 9 on the Concourse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On April 9, however, tickets will only be sold until noon.

Tickets will also be available April 4 at UPC’s Tiger Nights event.

The concert will be in the Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum and there will be limited floor seating. The floor seats will be first come first serve the day of the show. The concert starts at 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m.

How safe is AU Access?

When students at the University of Georgia arrived back in Athens after the break, they learned one of their university servers had suffered a security breach.

Sometime between Dec. 29 and 31, an overseas hacker broke into a University server that contained Social Security numbers, names and addresses for former, current and prospective residents of graduate family housing.

More than 4,250 Social Security numbers were possibly exposed, according to the University of Georgia’s student newspaper, The Red and Black.
