Staff Opinion: Saying “goodbye” to this odd, little family

Writing a farewell column should be easy for me. I wrote one for this paper at the end of fall semester in 2006.

It was a difficult thing to write then.

It’s harder now.

In the spring of 2007, this campus learned David Ingram would become The Plainsman’s next editor.

I really did not want to come back, but David offered me my old job as Opinions Editor, and David Ingram is a difficult person to say “no” to.

Reel Review: My Tenure as Critic

Not until you pry it ‘from my cold, dead hands’

Our Rating: 1 Star

Recently deceased actor Charlton Heston and I have few things in common, most notably his famous “from my cold, dead hands” quote.

Heston was, of course, speaking of the rifle he held proudly in his outstretched hand.

I quoted him when I told then-Plainsman editor Niki “Crash” Doyle I would be taking the movie review with me when I was kicked upstairs to my current position, Opinions Editor.

Cliff’s super-amazing spectacular battle against the oncoming forces of Christmas

Ah, Thanksgiving. Truly, the greatest holiday of them all, dreamed up by the fat man, of course.

Who else would dedicate an entire holiday to gluttony?

Coming to terms with living with Janie Ruth

Ever since we laid my grandmother to rest this summer, I’ve been racking my brain trying to find a way to turn it into a thoughtful, meaningful column for this paper.

But, up until now, every time I tried to put pen to paper or hand to keyboard, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

Hang your heads in shame, Auburn

Last Saturday, the collective behavior of the Auburn fans at the Mississippi State football game was reprehensible.
It is a widely known fact that Auburn fans don’t boo, save booing the opposing team as they enter the field or the referees if they make a bad call. By booing our team, you are sending them a message that says you put them on the same level as the other team.

Use common sense on Facebook

FOR THE EDITORIAL BOARD

We’re beginning to dread each new Facebook change and update, as our inboxes become flooded with requests to join new protest groups to show Mort Zuckerberg that we mean business.

Editorial: Collective yawn over UPC lineup

1994, we thank you for offering to let us borrow some of your hit bands for our UPC concert this fall, but you can have them back. “Live” and “Collective Soul” have about as much shelf life as the Macarena, a dance you have not yet heard of, but will become enamored with for some time.
