Art in the Garden will feature former Auburn coach Pat Dye, organic food aficionado and Auburn alumnus James Farmer, food from Ursula's Catering and live entertainment.
Colleen Bordeau, the museum’s marketing events manager, said Farmer will be the event’s featured speaker.
“James Farmer is kind of a ‘Martha Stuart type,’” Bordeaux said. “He does everything from flower arrangements to growing his own vegetables and making a fresh dinner.”
Farmer grew up in rural Georgia surrounded by peach orchards, native flowers and heirloom vegetable gardens. He was raised on organic produce from his family’s farm.
“People kind of call him a lifestyle expert, all wrapped up into a Southern gentleman package,” Bordeaux said.
Bordeaux said there will also be landscapers present from around the area.
“The landscapers will set up landscape vignettes of ideas people can use for their own gardens,” Bordeaux said.
Bordeaux said Dye has been a part of Art in the Garden for the past three years.
“Coach Dye actually has a Japanese maple farm,” Bordeaux said. “He will be here for most of the evening selling his Japanese maples.”
A portion of Dye’s tree sales will be donated to the museum.
Art in the Garden will feature live performances from Variations Dance Studio and two musical guests.
“EG Kight, otherwise known as the ‘Georgia songbird,’ will be playing in the beginning,” Bordeaux said. “And then at the end of the evening, Joey Allcorn and the Can’t Hardly Playboys will be playing.”
Bordeaux described the band's genre as “everybody’s country.”
“Want want it to appeal to everybody,” Bordeaux said. “We’ve had everyone from college-aged students to grandparents dancing and enjoying the music.”
Along with an art auction, guests can bid on passes to Disney World and Orlando, Southwest Airlines tickets, jewelry, spa packages and even a trip package to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.
All the proceeds will go back to support the museum’s exhibitions and educational programs.
Art in the Garden tickets are $75 per person and include two drink tickets, a full dinner and entertainment.
