Tables filled with jewelry, pottery, sculptures, glasswork and fabric filled the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art Saturday.

Each piece of art was designed by local artists and on sale to the public during the Juried Decorative Arts Sale.

The event began last year as a pottery sale featuring about 12 vendors and this year expanded to include more forms of art.

“We have about 25 artists here offering all different types of art,” said Gina Touchton, who helped recruit the artists for the sale.

Before the sale, which lasted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., was halfway over, Touchton said she thought more than 400 visitors had come.

“It’s a good turnout even though the weather isn’t good today,” Touchton said.

Gina Murray, a glass artist who moved to Auburn from Seattle, Wa. last year, said she thought the sale was a good event.

“I’ve had a lot of interest in my work today,” Murray said.

Touchton, who owned the Rattling Gourd Gallery in Loachapoka before it closed, said she thought all the art at the sale was high quality.

“There’s some great things here,” Touchton said.

Touchton has been working on the sale since November, but she is already looking toward next year’s event.

“We hope to set up tents outside next year to make room for more artists,” Touchton said.
