Freshman student dies in Wire Road accident

Freshman Brandon Scott Maluff, 19, died Thursday night in an automobile accident.

Auburn City Police responded to an accident on Wire Road between Webster and Cox roads at about 7:32 p.m.

Maluff was riding in a 1994 Jeep Wrangler driven by another 19-year-old Auburn man, who was transported to East Alabama Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Maluff, who was studying biomedical sciences, was a 2008 Auburn High School graduate.

The accident also involved a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by a 28-year-old Auburn woman who was not injured.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
