The Auburn Police Division arrested 22-year-old Gregory S. Gray Jr. Wednesday, Dec. 18, on a felony warrant. Gray was charged with the murder of Richard Kenneth DeVore, according to an APD news release.

Officers discovered DeVore, 24, of Auburn, deceased when they responded to a suspicious-incident call at a residence in the 100 Block of East University Drive received at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday night, APD Captain Timothy Dorsey said.

"When officers arrived at the residence DeVore was found unresponsive and had been physically assaulted and stabbed. Richard Kenneth DeVore, age 24 of Auburn was pronounced as deceased at the scene," the release read.

Following the discovery of DeVore, the APD initiated a homicide investigation which led to the development of Gray, an acquaintance of the victim, as a suspect.

According to the release, officers located Gray at a residence in Montgomery the same day, and later transported to the Lee County Jail where his bond was set at $150,000.

The release also states The Auburn Police Division was assisted by: the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Lee County District Attorney’s Office, Montgomery Police Department, Macon County Sherriff’s Office, Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
