Editor, the Auburn Plainsman

I am a FH Alum (93) and, like many others, think that the sanctions against FH fraternity are excessive.

There were three hazing items listed in The Plainsman article: verbal harassment, requiring pledges to perform errands or chores and conducting interrogations.

If there was verbal harassment, it was, much like the “interrogations,” isolated.

FH is about “Building Men,” not tearing men down.

If FH was not serious about what it is doing on the campus of Auburn University, it would not have expelled three brothers who were involved in any hazing activity.

As far as the chores that a pledge does, they are no different from any chores a brother performs.

This is not a hazing violation (Ala. Statute 16-1-23).

I don’t understand how the IFC could place a 36-month suspension on FH given that FH took steps immediately to solve a problem.

(This is much like the NCAA sanctions against Auburn even though Pat Dye stepped down).

If there is an issue with a hazing incident, a pledge should go to his big brother and the fraternity president and allow them the opportunity to handle the situation.

If that doesn’t work, then, they can call the hotline.

Quit crying b/c your precious fraternity got kicked off campus. they are a bunch of pussssies anyway. they wouldnt knwo hazing if it smacked them on the ass while they were blowing each other in theyre chapter room. Anyways if you want someone to blame it was the purcell twins that complained to IFC. guess they coudlnt hang with the great frat of Farmhouse.

I disagree with the previous comment. I think that part of joining an organization such as a fraternity should involve an initiation process. While we should never condone physical/emotional abuse, pressure to drink excessively, unreasonable responsibilities that detract from a pledge's ability to perform in class etc, something as harmless as house chores or designated driver duty is a part of the grudge work that ultimately makes you feel closer to your brothers and appreciate the organization even more when you're done.

First hazing in ANY capacity is not tolerate and if these morons of FH chose to ignore that and haze someone, then they are out of line and should be dealt with, in accordance to the guideline. Just because you are in a fraternity does NOT mean that you have special privileges or that you are above rules and regulation. Even though they kicked the "bad brothers" out, the fraternity as a whole must suffer because that is the nature of the beast. You apply as brothers (as a unit) and you are responsible for the acts of everyone (as a unit).
