“I like its integration of quick thoughts like twitter, but it's not limited to the 140 characters,” Malcolm Hamilton, junior in polymer and fiber engineering said. “ I also like how you can share photos, videos and feeds seamlessly through Google services Picasa, YouTube, and Google Reader.”
According to Google’s blog, it is becoming more and more difficult to sort through all of the messages, tweets and status updates sent to any one person on a daily basis.
So in order to sort through it all, Google Buzz allows its users to integrate social-networking sites they are already using, such as Twitter and Facebook.
However, according to a site called Technewsdaily.com, Google Buzz has enough differences from Twitter and Facebook to bring enough attraction all on its own.
First of all, Google Buzz works through an already existing email client. Meaning that if you have Gmail, everyone on your contacts list can already receive information from you through Buzz.
Basically, it cuts out the set-up process and also changes the way you friend people. You can already “follow the people you email and chat with the most on Gmail,” Google’s Buzz website said.
Also, because it’s all in the same place, integrating email with the social networking sites eliminates the need for multiple browser windows and multiple log-ins.
Another unique feature to Google Buzz is the instant full-screen viewing of media. Although uploading images and video is not a new feature to social networking sites, Google takes it a step further.
“Google managed to improve [media viewing] by making pictures and video immediately viewable from the Buzz feed in full-screen mode. Pictures are also displayed in a scrolling gallery menu so you can quickly switch between them,” Technewsdaily.com said.
Not only that, but when a link is posted into a Buzz feed, Google pulls images from the site and the user can choose what their friend sees on the post. This allows people to see what they are being linked to before they even go to the site.
Another interesting feature Google Buzz has added is its mobile capability and basing posts based on location.
This essentially allows the user's friends to see what is happening locally for the user.
According to Google’s blog, “posts tagged with geographical information have an extra dimension of context.”
Therefore, if you make a post from your favorite restaurant, your friends will know where you made that post.
Finally, the feature that is most unique to Google Buzz is relevancy rankings.
Buzz looks at each post and sees what is most relevant to the user and then sends that post goes to the top of their news feed. This means that uninteresting posts to the user become eliminated.
All in all, Google Buzz has added many new features that bring together social networking and email. And although it just came on the scene, time will tell if the buzz about Google Buzz will bring people together in a new way.
“I am ready for more users to join,” Hamilton said. “So I can fully experience all it has to offer.”
