President/CEO Mike Hubbard said, “We saw that classic hits were not in the market and there was a need. We are not classic rock because that mostly appeals to males; our station has a nice mix between males and females.”
Students around town are beginning to tune in the station.
Jake Naman, freshmen at Southern Union said, “I think the radio stations around here are boring, but this station brings a new variety to the area. It reminds me of a classic hits station from back home that I liked a lot.”
Hubbard said, “We originally went for an older audience of 25-54 years old, but out response from students is overwhelming.”
Not only does Wings play good music, like ZZ top, the Doobie Brothers, the Eagle, the Beatles, Boston and Journey, they are the first radio station in the area to broadcast in High Definition, according to its Web site www.wingsfm.com.
According to the Web site, “It delivers its signal utilizing the very latest in digital technology.”
Hubbard said, “We set it up first class, best announcers, best music selection, and best quality sound.”
So while listeners can enjoy the crisp quality of sound from the new radio station, they can also enjoy the unique offering of tunes no other local radio station provides.
Wings also bought a baby blue T-bird as their station’s promotional car, so look for it cruising around in the neighborhood.
