Auburn is constantly changing: old is taken out and new is implemented. One such change that will affect every student, employee and faculty member this fall is the change of the Tiger Card system in correlation with the Banner system.
According to the Tiger Card Web site, everyone must renew his or her Tiger Card by Aug. 29 without fee. After Aug. 29, there will be a charge of $25 to renew the card.
“We want to get everyone done by then, because I think the first football game is September 1 and we just picked the date of Aug. 29,” Fred Bobo, Banner Project director, said. “The ID office decided everyone should have it made by then and if they don’t well then it’s sort of an incentive to get them all made before the 29.”
The reason the news cards are necessary is because with the Banner system, students will no long be identified by their social security number. Instead a nine digit number is being assigned to every student.
“(Getting a new number) goes along with the whole concept of getting away from the social security number as a student identifier for security and identity theft purposes,” Bobo said.
Tiger Cards are University students’ identification, football tickets, keys into dormitories, library cards, debit cards and meal tickets.
After Aug. 29, old IDs will not work to get into football games, gain access to dormitories, check out library books or use a Tiger Club Account. New IDs will also be required to get a parking pass.
July 16 was the first day students were able to renew their cards and the line was long at times.
“(I think) it’s necessary,” Cayce Van Horn, an instruction support specialist in the Ralph Brown Draughon Library, said. “(I came on the first day) just to get it done.”
There are several places within the next few weeks where students will be able to renew their cards.
According to the Tiger Card Web site, from July 16 - Aug. 29 between the hours of 8 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.,  students, faculty and staff can get their cards remade in the War Eagle Cafeteria ID Card Office and the Food Service Warehouse at 151 S. Donahue Drive.
During the same days and hours, faculty and staff may also go to the Identity Management Office in the Property Services Building at the corner of Shug Jordan Parkway and Pumphrey Lane.
There will be a station set up in Burton Hall on Aug. 3 and 11, during the time when sorority upperclassman move in.
The War Eagle location will also be open on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 8 a.m.- noon and 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. for faculty, staff and students.
From August 6-30, the ID Card Office will be working in conjunction with parking services and will have a booth set up in the Coliseum, because students must have the new ID card in order to get their parking pass.
Bobo said students to get their card as soon as possible, because of the many card purposes.
“Everyone should get new cards, from a student stand point they will have to have a new card to get into the football games this fall and the old card will not work,” Bobo said.
Bobo also said the changes with the Tiger Card should have no effect on Tiger Club accounts once students get the new card.
This change is not the first change for the Banner system since its implementation in 2005. Students have now begun registering for classes via AU Access which falls under the system.
Bobo said one advantage to the system is that students have a single sign on and have access to everything they need.
Bobo also said students should expect to have no further adjustments which require them make changes, like getting a new cards.
