Every year, the University Program Council brings movies, workshops and other social events to our campus, and this year is no different.

“As UPC president, I am most excited about our awesome events this fall,” Emily Dorman said. “We have a great team of student leaders who have been working really hard to find events that Auburn students will enjoy.”

UPC’s annual block party will be held Aug. 21, on Cater Lawn. This event gives students the opportunity to meet new people and enjoy a little fun during the chaos of starting a new semester.

UPC will be housed in the new Student Center to give students more availability and opportunities.

“I think the new Student Center is going to benefit the whole student body, because we’ll be so close to all the other student organizations, and we’ll be at the center of campus,”  said Joey Libera, UPC treasurer. “Publicity will be easier, and more people will know about our events beforehand.”

Although the first movie of the year, “Iron Man,” was shown last night, there are many opportunities left to catch your favorite blockbuster for free.

During the month of September, “The Incredible Hulk” and “Wanted” will be shown.

Also during September, dinner and a movie will feature “Sex and the City” in Foy Ballroom. “Get Smart” and “The Dark Knight” will be shown in October in Dudley Hall. November will feature “Step Brothers” and “Pineapple Express.”

“I am most looking forward to the ‘Sex and the City’ dinner and a movie event,” said Katie Captain, UPC vice president. “I absolutely loved it when I saw it in the theater!”

Along with movies, UPC will be presenting a series of painting, dance and cooking workshops. A painting workshop will be held Oct. 2, and Nov. 13, a hip-hop dance workshop will be held.

The first cooking workshop will be held Aug. 28, featuring calzones, followed by a dessert workshop Oct.16.

To participate, be sure to sign up in the UPC office located in the new Student Center across from the stadium.

The popular Open Mic Night will be Sept. 25, in the Student Activities Center. Other September events include The Golden Dragon Acrobats, Battle of the Bands, Tiger Mania and a gaming tournament.

A major event this year will be the Auburn vs. West Virginia live feed held on Cater Lawn, Oct. 23. This Thursday night game is ranked as one of the toughest games in college football this year, so be sure not to miss it!

For Halloween, join UPC for a ghost hunter event Oct. 30, followed by a carnival Halloween night.

A holiday celebration will be held Dec. 4, with the tree lighting on Samford Lawn and other seasonal events.

To get involved with UPC, attend one of three committee interest meetings Aug. 26 or 27, and turn in your application by Aug. 29.
