The office presents it, though, as thinking about how your life connects to the four aspects of the sustainability compass: nature, society, economics and well-being.

This is in response to the Plainsman’s July column titled “Urbanization of Auburn leaving behind some community members.“ As a former resident, I write because I disagree that urbanization (or urbanism, as its advocates prefer) is a bogeyman that implies negatives like “gentrification” — to the contrary, urbanism and its principles offer a path to sustainability and inclusion, and I believe Auburn should embrace them.

The City of Auburn has named a new planning director, as Steve Foote was hired to fill the position last week according to a press release from the City. In his new role, Foote will be responsible for the City’s land use plan, zoning ordinance and subdivision regulations, according to the press release.
