Bluegrass festival coming back to the Plains May 30

Bluegrass fans will be gathering together on the Auburn Plains from May 30- June 5 to hear music, eat from the many food vendors, and celebrate the Memorial Day week.

Bluegrass on the Plains music festival will be held at the University Station RV Park and Mathan Holt, founder of the event, expects people from all over the country to attend.

“One of the projects I built in Auburn was the University Station RV Park and while I was building that I had the picture to build the park to accommodate a bluegrass festival.” Holt said, “In 2012 we held the first festival and this upcoming year will be the 5th and I hope to continue to put on one of the best Bluegrass festivals in the country.”

Jerry Douglas & The Earls of Leicester, Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Daryl Singletary, Mary Rayborn and Mountain Faith are just a handful of artists that will be performing throughout the week.

“My goal is to have one of the biggest Bluegrass festivals in the country.” Holt said, “My definition of a great festival is place that fans can come to see all the big bands, a great facility and a great show for the whole family.”

Holt is expecting to see around 6,000 people this year and is seeing incredible growth with people from all over the United States. He hopes to install a Bluegrass influence in the Lee County area.

The music event will also include a memorial day BBQ, brush fires, a potluck, arts & crafts, vendors and workshops for festival goers to participate in.
