Auburn Police Division is investigating a report of a menacing encounter after a black male pulled up beside a victim in a red Kia Soul, yelling and flashing what appeared to be a handgun without previous provocation, police said Thursday.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, April, 3, at the traffic light on North
"It is still under investigation and there was no provocation, as far as we know," said Assistant Chief of Police Will Matthews.
Matthews said the last place the subject was spotted was eastbound on Magnolia Avenue and Gay Street. Police are investigating the incident.
Auburn University Campus Safety suggested the following:
- Stay aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts
- If you are confronted by someone, try not to engage them and get away from the situation as quickly as possible
- If you see suspicious activity or a person behaving suspiciously, notify police at 911 (emergencies or crimes in progress), 334-501-3100 (non-emergencies) or 334-246-1391 (tip line – text or call)
