Marlon Davidson named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week

Auburn sophomore Marlon Davidson has been named the week four SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week, announced by conference Monday morning.

Davidson returned from injury in Auburn's SEC opener against Missouri this past Saturday. The 2016 SEC All-Freshman defender recorded four tackles, a tackle for loss and a peculiar fumble recovery.

Mizzou quarterback Drew Lock was hit as he threw in the second quarter and coughed up the pigskin. At first glance, Lock appeared to have forward motion when releasing the ball, however the referees never blew the whistle. Davidson, who initially began to walk back to the sideline, picked up the fumble and returned it 33 yards to the Mizzou 20. Auburn would go up 28-0 off the turnover thanks to Kerryon Johnson's fourth first-half touchdown.

Davidson paced the orange and blue Tiger defense, which held Missouri to 340 total yards while forcing four turnovers on the night.

The performance came at an important time, as junior defensive lineman Byron Cowart left the program earlier in the week. Davidson did not play in Auburn's 24-10 week three victory over Mercer, but felt like he came back at "100 percent" against Missouri.

“Coming off an injury, just being out here and playing out here with my brothers, it was great,” Davidson said. “To get back on the field like this and have a performance, I'll take it any day and any time.”
