For the first time since 2003, Auburn men's basketball is going dancing.
Bruce Pearl's SEC regular-season champion Tigers (25-7, 13-5 SEC) were named a 4 seed by the NCAA Tournament committee Sunday evening. Auburn will face off with 13 seed Charleston in the first round in San Diego.
Auburn is slated in the Midwest bracket, which includes top seeds Kansas, Duke, and Michigan State. Tennessee, which tied Auburn for the conference title in the regular season, earned a 3 seed. SEC Tournament champion Kentucky was named a 5 seed.
The Charleston Cougars are 26-7 for the year and are the Colonial Athletic Association champions.
Picked to finish ninth in the conference in the preseason, Auburn was consistently ranked in the Top 25 once the conference schedule began. The team's SEC title is the first for the program since 1999.
Despite a historic season, the Tigers stumbled to the finish line, losing four of their last six games. The latest came in the conference tournament to rival Alabama.
Tip-off vs. Charleston is set for this Friday.
