Toomer's Corner oaks poisoned

The Toomer's Corner live oaks on campus have little chance to survive after a lethal amount of herbicide was deliberately applied to the soil around the trees, according to Auburn University.

The herbicide, known as Spike 80DF, or tebuthiuron, is not used by the University, and the City of Auburn Police Division are investigating the situation.

A caller to The Paul Finebaum Show, a nationally syndicated radio show, claimed Jan. 27 he applied the herbicide to the soil.

Pick up a copy of The Auburn Plainsman tomorrow for more details on the situation.
