Former basketball coach Tony Barbee has been promoted to assistant coach for Kentucky under the leadership of John Calipari Friday morning, May 22.
Barbee was fired from Auburn with the conclusion of the 2013-14 season, being replaced by Bruce Pearl soon after.
As coach, Barbee led the Tigers to one of the lowest SEC records in the program’s history, 18-50 and overall, 49-75.
However, Calipari sees Barbee’s potential.
"I'm excited for Tony, who has been a part of my basketball family for more than 20 years," Calipari said. "Tony has proven himself to be one of the top coaches in the country. The knowledge and experience he brought to our staff last season was invaluable. To have him be a part of our staff is a blessing for all of us."
