Women's tennis sweeps Mercer in doubleheader

The women's tennis team improved to 9-1 on the season with a 4-0, 7-0 doubleheader sweep over Mercer at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 13.

The No. 39-ranked doubles team Pleun Burgmans and Paula de Man continued their winning streak, defeating Grace Korta and Katia Stravroulaki 6-1 in the first match, and improved to 6-1 in the second.

"I thought this was a great team performance," said Auburn coach Lauren Spencer. "We played at a high level, and I felt that even when we got ourselves in tight positions, we were able to make smart decisions and construct our points well."

No. 27 Andie Dikosavljevic improved to 6-1 in the dual-match season with two wins. She trumped Korta 6-0, 6-1 and then moved on to claim victory over Katie Sidor, 6-1, 6-1.

"Mercer is a team that fights for every point," Spencer said. "You have to be ready for the ball to come back no matter how good you hit it, and they made us play to win."

The wins add to give Spencer 69 total wins at Auburn, tying the record for the most by any Auburn women's tennis coach.

The Tigers will host North Florida and Georgia Southern next weekend and look to make Spencer the all-time winningest coach in Auburn women's tennis history.
