Here's what you may have missed from Auburn sports this weekend:
Women's Basketball:
When asked about last season’s success earlier in the week, sophomore point guard Janiah McKay said, “Defense is everything. Defense is what got us that far and continues to be the main part of this program.”
That defense stole the show in the 2016 season opener, forcing 38 Troy turnovers, and leading Auburn to a 61-52 victory at Auburn Arena Friday night.
Men's Basketball:
The new-look Auburn men's basketball team opened up the 2016-17 season with a victory against mid-major power North Florida in a 83-66 victory at Auburn Arena on Friday night.
Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl earned a win for the first game of his 35th season coaching.
Soccer:
The Tigers defeated South Alabama 4-0 to send Auburn the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. Auburn (15-6-0) will face Connecticut (19-2-0) on Friday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. CST in Gainesville, Florida.
The winner will move on to the Sweet 16 to face the victor of Florida and Wisconsin.
Football:
Whatever hopes Auburn had of reaching the SEC Championship ended Saturday night. The Tigers’ normally potent offense sputtered to one of the worst performances in recent history, and they dropped a 13-7 loss to a Georgia team they in all likelihood should’ve beaten.
Here are some post-mortem notes from the Tigers’ disappointing loss:

Baseball:
The 2016 Auburn Fall Classic took place at Plainsman Park this past weekend, with the Blue team sweeping the Orange in a three-game spout.
"All in all, we got better this week and this fall," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. "This team, from where we started on August 16 to now, got better and that’s really all we are focused on.”
