City Council approves budget, give out awards

The Auburn City Council unanimously approved amending the city's biennial budget Tuesday night.

The budget is for the fiscal year of October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012.

The change in the budget will help the city in developing a budget for the fiscal years of 2013 and 2014.

The city expects to have more than $23 million leftover after expenditures for the General Fund.

This money will go toward things like workers compensation and the City of Auburn Board of Education. $4 million will be put into a permanent reserve fund that will be used during natural disasters or severe economic downturn.

The council also approved alcoholic beverage licenses to Store 10, located at 1884 W. Longleaf Drive; Store 18, located at 435-G North Dean Road; and to KJ's Fish Camp, a restaurant located at 1936 S. College St. Store 10 was approved to sell beer and wine while Store 18 and KJ's Fish Camp were approved to sell liquor.

The council also agreed to the purchase of a new Ford pick-up truck for the engineering division of the Public Works Department for $24,126 from Stivers Ford Lincoln Mercury in Montgomery and 25 new laptops for the Police Division for $54,562.50 from Pinnacle Networx in Wetumpka.

The council then approved Reynolds Inliner, LLC to take on the Payne Street Drainagae Improvement Project for $49,900 and the Southside Sewer Basin 12 Rehabilitation Project for $196,056.
