A new face in beauty

Acne is something that many young people struggle with. The social stigma surrounding oily skin, pimples and blackheads is something that nearly everyone has fallen victim to before.

However, there is a growing movement of women and men on Instagram who are taking a stand against the idea that acne is something to be covered up.

17-year-old Shytan, better known by her tag @cysticpimps, is helping lead that fight. Her Instagram is filled with pictures of her proudly showing off the cystic acne and captions that promote self-love and body positivity.

Having "grown up being taught that beauty is much more than our skin, body and what others think," Shytan is now trying to spread that message.

She wants people to know that "acne is normal, our bodies are normal and that being confident despite having what society has deemed as a flaw is normal."

However, while Shytan and many others are supporters of this makeup-free movement, it definitely doesn't mean that they are opposed to makeup in its entirety.

"Makeup is really a cool concept, and it's an art form for lots of women and men," she said.

According to her, the problems arise when makeup is "being used to hide yourself," because, "we shouldn't need makeup to feel beautiful."

This message of body positivity is all about being able to feel comfortable in your own skin, which Shytan describes as "being able to look in the mirror and accept that I am who I am."

It's about "being comfortable with yourself is about accepting yourself for everything you are, and everything you are not," according to Shytan.
