Going into the Outback Bowl, Auburn players and its coaching staff were looking to capture the10th win of the season and carry momentum into 2020. Senior, and likely top-10 draft pick, Derrick Brown opted to return for the game and was joined by fellow senior Marlon Davidson on the defensive line. It seemed to be shaping up as one last ride for the dominant Auburn defense, but instead it ended in disappointment. In the end, Minnesota was able to dominate in the trenches, beating Auburn 31-24 and piling up 494 yards of total offense.

The bushes have been trampled, Toomer's Corner has been rolled and Auburn now boasts a 48-45 victory in the Iron Bowl. But Alabama led in time of possession, total yards, passing yards, first downs and total plays.

In a game where most sportsbooks had the over-under set at 50.5, both Auburn and Alabama nearly covered the spread themselves. It was a game with big play after big play that eventually went Auburn’s way with a missed field goal from Alabama and then an illegal substitution to ice the game for Auburn, 48-45. Alabama was able to put up 150 more yards than Auburn along with returning a kick for a touchdown but Auburn saw Zakoby McClain and Smoke Monday both return interceptions for touchdowns. Auburn knew a matchup with the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs wouldn’t be easy, especially for a team that has had offensive struggles throughout the year. The game was predicted to be a defensive showdown and if you’re a fan of old-fashioned football, you likely weren’t disappointed.
