Defensive back Jamel Dean suffered an injury last week that will require surgery, Gus Malzahn announced in a press conference on Saturday. Malzahn and the Auburn medical staff expect Dean will be forced to sit out for an extended period of time.
The 6-foot- 2 cornerback was competing to be a starting cornerback for the Tiger defense, opposite Carlton Davis.
A four star recruit who was originally enrolled at Ohio State, Dean left for the Plains after not being medically cleared by the Buckeye medical staff. He sat out his entire freshman season at Auburn in 2015.
In this senior season of high school the 205 pounder played both offense and defense, tallying 1,423 all-purpose yards, 16 touchdowns, 20 tackles and seven pass deflections.
