A spirit that is not afraid

Buckeyes down Tigers at indoor championships

The No.14 Auburn Tigers struggled on Friday as they fell to No. 7 Ohio State, 4-1 at the ITA Women’s Team Indoor Championships in Rocky Hill, Conn.

“I have to give a lot of credit to Ohio State, they came out and owned the match from the very beginning,” Auburn head coach Lauren Spencer said. “I don’t believe that we played poorly, we just didn’t come out and play our style. This was a learning experience that we need to build on. We just need to regroup and get ready for tomorrow’s match.”

Auburn dropped the doubles point for the first time this season after losses on courts two and three. No. 6 Alizee Michaud and Taylor Russo improved to 12-3 on the season, defeating Ohio State's Sandy Niehaus and Anna Sanford, 6-4.

No. 98 Russo continued her strong start to the 2017 dual-match season with her fifth-straight victory and her third win over a ranked opponent. Russo defeated No. 68 Gabriella De Santis, 6-1, 6-3. She has already been awarded with the SEC Freshman of The Week honor once this season.

The Tigers will compete in the consolation bracket tomorrow. Match time and pairings have not been released yet.
