Auburn rolls past Kennesaw State

The bats were on fire for the Tigers on Wednesday Night as No. 7 Auburn softball beat Kennesaw State 7-3 at Jane B. Moore Field. Auburn (37-7) recorded 11 hits Wednesday night. 

Jenna Abbott, Alyssa Rivera, and Courtney Shea went a combined 6-for-9 at the plate. Each had two base hits. Shea also has two RBI’s. Abbott and Rivera each recorded one RBI along with Kasey Cooper, Casey McCrackin and Carlee Wallace.

“It was a good win and it’s going to get us ready for South Carolina,” head coach Clint Myers said. “We talked about it; every time they scored, we answered. That’s good and that’s important for teams to be able to do.”

Makyala Martin pitched the first six innings while, Kaylee Carlson pitched the final inning.  Martin totaled three strikeouts on the night.

Auburn took a 2-0 lead after the third behind back-to-back RBI doubles by Wallace and Rivera. 

Kennesaw State (31-14) tied the game up in the fourth inning on a two-run single. Auburn took the lead and never looked back on a Shea two run homerun. Kennesaw threated in the sixth, but Martin was able to get back to back groundouts.

In the bottom of the sixth, Abbott drove a double to right for a RBI. McCrackin roped a single to center to score a run, and Cooper rounded out the scoring with a sac fly.

Auburn takes on South Carolina this weekend in Columbia. The series starts Friday night at 6 P.M. CT and can be streamed on SEC Network+.
