Entering into any sport can be difficult. It can be especially hard for women if they feel they have to compete against men. The rock wall at the Recreation and Wellness Center is a popular feature.
Studying abroad for a month or a semester can seem like a long time. Volunteering abroad for a year and a half can seem like forever to some. The Peace Corps was established in 1961 to help provide assistance to developing countries.
The pageant world is often seen as all glitz, glamour and looking pretty on a stage. However, the recent Big Man on Campus event caused some male competitors to rethink their views on the pageant industry. “Now I think of beauty pageants like any other competition,” said David Mitchell, junior in undeclared science and math.
It’s rare that something stolen will ever be returned, but especially by a stranger.
When a person is accustomed to a certain culture they have been raised with, speaking Portuguese to everyone they meet and attending a university in Brazil, transitioning to school in the United States can be difficult. “Usually students take 24 or 25 credit hours in Brazil,” said Rafael de Almeida Leite, senior in agronomy and soils.
With a stage lit only by a few light bulbs, and dirt spread beneath feet, dancers dressed in dark clothing slide across the floor. This is the opening piece for Associate Professor Adrienne Wilson’s vision, “The Guest List.” “I had this vision last year about bringing in guests artists and calling it, ‘The Guest List,’” Wilson said.
This year was the first year the Delta Zetas entered to participate in Auburn University’s Tiger Stomp, a traditionally National Pan-Hellenic Council run event. “I would really like my sorority to get involved in bridging the gap between the NPC (National Panhellenic Conference) and the (NPHC) National Pan-Hellenic Council) gap,” said Lexi Burkard, a senior in biomedical sciences and pre-pharmacy. Burkard was appointed Delta Zeta Tiger Stomp chair with the help of Delta Zeta’s sister sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha. Burkard was in charge of choreographing almost all of the dances the group needed to learn and step shows featured in her sororities’ performance. “You have 15 minutes to put together your performance,” Burkard said.
This year’s Tiger Stomp was a success. Auburn’s Kappa Alpha Psi won first place, with Beta Kappa from Jacksonville State University taking second.
When watching a live musical performance, it can be easy to be captivated by the artist or performer.
Of the wide variety of elective courses offered at Auburn, there is one in the College of Animal Sciences that is almost too popular.
