Finney's homers lift Tigers over Hogs

The Auburn softball team took its series against Arkansas 2-1 Sunday, bringing its record to 27-13 overall and 7-7 in the Southeastern Conference.

The 5-4 win was secured by Myesha Finney's two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning.

The teams split the double header Saturday, with Auburn winning the opening game 4-3, but losing the second game 4-2.

"Myesha played outstanding against Florida in our last series," said Auburn head coach Tina Deese. "Myesha is one of the seniors we've relied on all year, and she really came through for us again today."

Anna Thompson earned the win in game one by striking out 13 batters in eight innings. Tatiana Fernandez led the team at the bat, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

"This was a very important series for us to come out and win," Finney said. "I prepare for games by easing the nerves of my teammates by making everyone laugh. I find when we can relax, and then we can focus and do what we need to do."

Batting the game Sunday, Elizabeth Eisterhold gave the Tigers an early lead.

Kyndall White singled to left and moved to second on a bunt by Lindsey Harrelson.

Fernandez hit a single to the center, and Eisterhold lofted another one to deep center to bring White home.

The Razorbacks struck back and scored three runs in the second inning, making the score 3-1.

The Tigers closed the gap in the fourth inning as Cassie Trosclair homered to right. This was Trosclair's first career home run.

In the top of the fifth, Myesha Finney was hit by a pitch. Harrison laced a ground ball that went just under the glove of Kayla Johnson at second to bring Finney home and even the score at 3-3.

"Amber has come a long way, and she leads the team in hitting in conference play," Deese said. "Elizabeth has been a star athlete this season as well. I can't say enough about the effort our team has displayed."

Arkansas recaptured the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Finney fouled off nine pitches before blasting the game-winning home run over the fence in right.

It was Finney's sixth home run of the season and her fourth game-winning RBI.

"I think we are doing well this season, but I believe that the best is yet to come," Harrison said. "I am going to be hitting in the batting cages and trying to prepare myself for Tennessee coming up."

Auburn's next challenge will be a three-game series against Tennessee in Knoxville April 10-11.

"All the SEC teams are going to be tough this year," Deese said. "I know Tennessee is coming up, but we are already looking ahead to Alabama and Georgia, who has an outstanding team this year."
