2 Auburn students die over weekend

The Auburn student body is mourning the loss of two Auburn students who died in separate incidents over the weekend.

Auburn Assistant Police Chief Tommy Dawson said Bradley Langston, 21, of Lakeland, Fla. was injured in a one-car accident on Shug Jordan Parkway in which his car veered off the road and he was ejected from his vehicle early Saturday morning.

Captain Tom Stofer of the Auburn Police Department said units were dispatched to the scene of the accident Saturday at exactly 12:59 a.m.

"He had severe injuries as a result of the accident and was transported by Life Flight to Columbus Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries," Dawson said.

Langston was a junior in building science and member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Chris Hart, spokesman for Beta Theta Pi, said his thoughts are with Langston's friends and family.

"My prayers go out to the Langston family," Hart said. "He was a great guy, always smiling."

Alex Johns, a sophomore in marketing and Langston's roommate since last fall, said Langston was irreplaceable.

"I come from a really small town and didn't have anyone to move up here with me as far as roommates," Johns said. "I got paired with Brad, luck of the draw, and he took me in and introduced me to everybody."

Johns said he was with Langston the night of the accident.

"We spent all day by the pool, came home and got ready to go to his rush party at the fraternity house," Johns said. "We were just listening to the band, dancing and having a great time."

Johns said he never met anyone that didn't like Langston.

"I miss him," Johns said. "It's not the same without him around the house at all."

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church in Langston's hometown of Lakeland, Fla.

Trenton McLeod , 23, of Prattville was injured in a tractor accident at his job at Moore's Mill Club early Sunday morning in which the tractor he was riding went off an embankment.

Dawson said emergency units responded to the incident around 7:15 a.m.

"He was also transported by Life Flight to Columbus Medical Center and succumbed to his injures, unfortunately," Dawson said.

McLeod was a senior in building science and member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.

Paul Pinyan, adviser of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, said a memorial fund honoring McLeod's leadership in Alpha Gamma Rho has been set up through Charter Bank.

"The fraternity is saddened by the death of our brother Trent McLeod," Pinyan said. "We just ask that all the students and the faculty continue to keep his family and friends in their thoughts and prayers as they endure this tragic event."

Pinyan said more than 100 people attended a memorial service in McLeod's honor Monday afternoon at Moore's Mill Club.

Brittany Wiginton, a senior in business administration, said Trent was the kind of person who was always smiling and got along with everyone.

"His smile was the biggest part of his personality," Wiginton said.

Wiginton said she hung out with McLeod Saturday night and reminisced of their high school days together.

"He impacted my life and so many other people," Wiginston said. "Trent was always in a good mood and always had a good time no matter what was going on."

A funeral service for McLeod will be held tomorrow at First United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. in his hometown of Prattville.

Dawson said both incidents are still under investigation and there was no indication that alcohol was involved with either.

Dean Green said he did not have information regarding University memorial services for either student at this point.

"We are certainly saddened for the families' loss and will be keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," Green said.
