Scott Carr Joins Auburn Athletic Staff as Senior Associate Athletic Director

Scott Carr, recently named Auburn University's senior associate AD, external affairs, will leave his eight-year stint at Southern Miss and move to Auburn July 2.

As senior associate AD, Carr must demonstrate experience with marketing, media relations, game atmosphere, contracts and sponsorships.

"At Southern Miss, I oversaw the marketing department and served as the main liaison with ISP Sports," Carr said. "My additional duties here were that I oversaw fundraising, licensing and merchandising and broadcasting."

As the country's largest and fastest growing multimedia rights holder, ISP serves as an active partner with more than 50 of America's leading universities, five major conferences, two postseason bowl games and two venues, according to the ISP Web site.

Before accepting a position at Southern Miss, Carr worked for the FedEx Orange Bowl in Miami, Fla., for four years, he said. "Some months closer to the game, you didn't know it was Thanksgiving or Christmas because things were so hectic," Carr said.

Considering his previous experience in the field of athletics, Carr said he feels comfortable with his responsibilities at Auburn.

"Being a part of the Auburn family - knowing that I'm working for an SEC school, which has arguably one of the best teams in the country - is one of the most appealing aspects of this career," Carr said.

Carr has had the opportunity to meet with athletic director Jay Jacobs and staff since his appointment to the new position.

"I know we will be able to work well together," Carr said. Jacobs agrees. "We're excited to have someone with Scott's broad range of experience join our department," Jacobs said. "He has a tremendous amount of expertise that will help us continue to improve as a department, and we are pleased to have him join the Auburn Family."

As his main goal for Auburn athletics, Carr said he hopes to incorporate the newest multimedia including blogging, Facebooking, Internet streaming and Twittering into the program.

"I'll be working with the staff in media relations and marketing," Carr said, "and I want to make sure we get a good, positive message about Auburn athletics out to the world."

Carr aims to do everything he can do to further improve Auburn's well-established tradition and unsurpassed game atmosphere, he said. Carr said he looks forward to gaining a different perspective at Auburn.

"I'm interested to see how a BCS school operates and how the atmosphere works," he said. "The fan base at Auburn is very passionate and very loyal, and it will be good to see how Auburn - one of the top programs in the country - does it."

In addition to a rich athletic tradition, Auburn offers a family-oriented environment in which to raise children, Carr said. "From what I know about the town in the times I've been there, it seems like people there are friendly," he said. "It seems like Auburn is a great place to raise my two children - a 16-year-old daughter and a 7-month-old daughter."
