Picture this: 75,000 apps later, the iPhone is now capable for picture and video messaging via MMS, as of Friday, Sept. 25.
Next time you witness a hilarious or newsworthy event, you can snap a picture and text it to your friends instantly instead of waiting for a delayed e-mail with the picture as an attachment.
"I am excited for the new picture and video messaging that is now available because the iPhone is such an advanced piece of technology that it is time for a simple feature like this to be added," said Callie Barfell, a senior in hotel and restaurant management.
Apple believes the new upgrade will help sales even further.
"Hopefully this will really encourage more people to purchase the iPhone," said Ramone De Johnson, employee of Auburn's technical support for Apple. "They were looking to add picture and video messaging to the iTouch, but they ran into a few issues. It is going to come out eventually, but not yet."
Johnson said to visit www.apple.com/itunes to download the updated software for iPhones.
According to AT&T, there is no additional cost for multimedia messaging under the plan of unlimited messaging and data. For individual multimedia messages, it is 30 cents a message. The unlimited plan is $20, for 15,000 messages a month it is $15.
The update is also available directly from iTunes when the iPhone is plugged in; it is approximately a 15-minute download.
