How To: Find a Date in 10 Days

Having a hard time trying to find a date? Don't worry. The season is rapidly changing so don't be caught out in the cold alone. There are many opportunities to find a date in Auburn.

Ladies put on your best pair of strappy heels and guys pull out your finest crisped button-down because your dating life is about to soar to new heights within 10 days.

When looking for a potential date, think about what type of person would be the best fit for you. Different characteristics and qualities are imperative when looking for a mate.

To get a date fast, you have to be realistic. Challenges are fun, but with challenges comes time.

Date within your league, but that doesn't mean you settle for the first person that asks you out. Once you have a suitable person in mind, make yourself approachable.

Katie Batson, a senior in communication disorders, has been dating for a year and she met her guy in class.

"Class and church are usually good places to meet respectable individuals in Auburn," Batson said.

She made herself available, but not desperate. By flirting and being social to her love interest, she was able to snag a study date. A date is a date, so don't get discouraged if it's only a study date. Study dates tend to lead to a romantic dinner.

Being yourself is another key factor to remember, when you're out on the prowl.

"If you're goofy, be goofy," Batson said.

Be yourself and let love follow.

Chris Longhenry, a senior in political science, was recently dumped by his long-time girlfriend he met in class. They broke up because they were on two different pages in the book titled "Relationships." It usually takes Longhenry a week or two to ask a female out on a date.

If you're just ending an extensive relationship, please take the time out to heal your heart wounds before pursuing new potential mates. Let the storm clouds pass, and then jump back in the dating pool.

"A girl doesn't have to be the most beautiful girl in the world; if she is intelligent and polite, I would more than likely ask her out on a date as soon as possible," Longhenry said.

If you are tired of trying to find a date at the bars or clubs, try speed dating.

Melissa Voynich, an Auburn University professor, did just that. Voynich, who is currently engaged to be married next year, went to a one-time speed dating event at Buffalo Connection in Auburn.

Voynich went with an acquaintance on Valentine's Day a few years ago, at which they had a chance to go on 5-minute dates with 20 people and then rate the person to determine if they were a good match. Unfortunately, she didn't find a match, but was able to get a date with a guy who wasn't participating in the event.

"It was a very entertaining experience," Voynich said.
