Tiger Transit Stolen Saturday

An Auburn University Tiger Transit bus was stolen in front of the McDonalds on West Magnolia Avenue after 2 a.m. Saturday.

"Somebody just didn't want to wait, " said University Manager of Transit Services Rex Huffman.

From McDonalds the bus ventured toward Logan Square, said Auburn Police Department Lt. Steve Woods. The report was called in while the bus was being driven around the apartment complex.

When the Tiger Transit arrived in Logan Square at approximately 2:30 a.m. the vehicle hit a couple of curbs, said witness Tyler Chandler. No vehicles were damaged.

The bus then parked in front of the apartment where Chandler had his vehicle.

"The driver got out and ran from the vehicle, disappearing between a couple of buildings," Chandler said. "Two passengers stumbled off of the transit - they had apparently gotten on asking for a ride to Supper Club."

During the next few minutes, people gathered around the bus trying to piece together what happened. When the police arrived they asked everyone to leave.

The bus was recovered within minutes of the incident, Huffman said.

At this time no suspects have been identified.
