Students begin plans for spring break 2010

There are only 43 days left until March 13.

Not that anyone is counting down, but if there aren't definite spring break plans highlighted and starred in your calendar, that might be a problem.

If you've found yourself in a panic, don't worry. There's still time to make spring break 2010 the best yet.

Maggie Johnson, senior in environmental design, along with her group of friends just booked their trip over the weekend.

"Me and my friends are going to Vegas," Johnson said.

Las Vegas, a legendary vacation destination, became the best option for Johnson and friends after comparing prices.

"Vegas was cheaper than going to the islands (of Jamaica)," Johnson said. "It's only $500 ... and we felt safer going there."

With packaged deals including round-trip airfare and hotel rooms, it has become easier than ever to travel with a group of friends to more exotic areas than the typical coast of Florida.

For those with a larger budget, a cruise can be a fun alternative.

Amanda Fugate, senior in communication disorders, is planning on taking a weeklong Disney Cruise to Spain.

"I'm going with the people I baby-sit for," Fugate said. "It's free for me, but the plane tickets alone can cost $1,000."

Although Disney Cruise packages are sold out online for the month of March, affordable packages can still be found from Royal Caribbean's Web site starting at $800 for a seven night cruise.

"I usually go to Orange Beach," Fugate said. "I'm excited to see Spain."

Having a lower budget may seem to take away many exotic options, but having fun inside the United States can still be just as fun while remaining affordable for college students.

"I'm planning on spending time at Reynolds Plantation, a few days in Charleston and then going to Steeplechase in Aiken, S.C.," said Caroline Davis, junior in interior design.

Davis plans on spending less than $300 and has her boyfriend and a few other friends joining her.

"I just want to enjoy being with my friends and family while relaxing," Davis said. "Also, I love getting dressed up for the races."

If planning a weeklong event can't fit into your Spring Break budget, taking a road trip for the weekend might be the perfect solution.

New Orleans is only a short five and a half hour drive and can always guarantee a fun weekend for any college student.

Piling together into one car with friends can save money on gas with everyone splitting the cost. Booking only one room for eight people can also be money saving, not to mention automatic fun. For those who want to

stay in Auburn for Spring Break, Chewacla Park can be the perfect weekend getaway. The entrance fee is only $3 and the park is

pet-friendly. Just don't forget that it is

possible for everyone, no matter how big or small the budget may be, to have the best Spring Break ever as long as they remember the real purpose of this week.

"Spring Break is all about fun," Johnson said. "It's the best bonding time with my friends and I love that."
