Knuckles dominate

Elbows were thrown and tempers flared as Owens Mooseknuckles took down Cultural Diversity 71-41 Tuesday night in the Student Activities Center.

Coming into the game with a 3-0 record, OMK fought hard from the start to set the tone for the rest of the game.

"We were facing a one-man team," said Mooseknuckle Austin Pierce, freshman in civil engineering. "That was pretty much the opposition."

Cultural Diversity fought hard attempting to gain the lead throughout the whole game, which led to numerous personal foul calls.

"We went in a little annoyed because of the referees calling terrible calls," said Wootinnah Iyegha, freshman in electrical engineering.

The tempers continued to escalate until head referee Nicholas Head stepped in and exchanged words with both teams.

"The toughest part of an officials job is when your players aren't taking it as serious as you would hope and that was the issue tonight." Head said.

Cultural Diversity narrowed the lead sufficiently at the half as Iyegha and his squad re-evaluated their game plan.

"We got a little flustrated cause no one was getting rebounds," Iyegha said. "Second half we came out strong, still turned the ball over, but we were making better passes and scored a lot more."

Gaining a 20-point lead with six minutes left, OMK took control of the game and never looked back.

Storming down the court furiously, Cultural Diversity let the lead slip to 30 as OMK got the win via the mercy rule.

"We were facing a 3-2 zone," said David Wright, sophomore in economics and OMK member, "and they were definitely fast break specialists."

With the loss, Cultural Diversity falls to a 2-2 record and will not gain a position in the playoffs that begin next week.

OMK remains undefeated and will prepare to move forward in next weeks playoff opener.
