SGA Senate gives various groups provisional status

Monday, SGA held its weekly meeting, one of the last of the spring semester. The well-dressed senators sat side by side to discuss its usual topics and issues.

After each senator made his or her presence known, the meeting began and bills were passed and postponed, per usual. This week the Auburn men's ice hockey team got some exciting news. The team proposed a bill that, if passed, would officially give them provisional status.

Fortunately, for the team members who were at the meeting eagerly awaiting their fate, the bill was passed without dispute or further discussion.

Several other bills proposed by various organizations were also passed, inlcuding provisional status for organizations like "Party People for Christ" and "Innovative Humanitarian Products."

None of the bills put forward by the various organizations were turned down, but few were tabled and will be discussed at the government's last meeting Tuesday.

The first bill that was put aside to be further considered next week came from the Students for Concealed Carry on Campus organization. The nation-wide organization wants the priveledge to bring licensed handguns onto Auburm's campus for protection purposes.

Since there was some dispute among the senate's the bill, it was tabled so the senators could be further informed on the topic and what the bill will actually allow.

The next bill to be tabled and considered after learning more about the proposal came from a group for Women for Aviation. The group wants to receive provisional status from the student government.

No one from the aviation organization was present the meeting so the proposal had to be held for next weeks considerations.

Permanent status for certain organizations were also brought to the attention of the government. The Diamond Dolls, the Auburn baseball team's most consistent supporters, got its wish Monday night, as the Dolls are

now here to stay.

After landing an Auburn appearance from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani the SGA gladly permitted permanent status for the Perspectives on the Plains organization.

Giuliani will share his experiences with Auburn students this Monday, May 3, at 7 p.m.
