Auburn Police arrested two juveniles suspected of burglarizing motor vehicles at approximately 4 a.m. on Monday.
The two youths, a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, both Auburn residents, allegedly took backpacks out of unlocked cars in The Reserve parking lot, according to Acting Police Chief Tommy Dawson. Police were called to the scene after witnesses reported the teenager's suspicious activity.
Auburn Police officers arrested the two youths on the scene without incident.
The teenagers had stolen three backpacks before the police officers apprehended them, Dawson said.
The two juveniles were arrested on charges of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and theft of property in the second degree.
Dawson said people should take the event as a warning.
"This type of thing happens more than it should," Dawson said. "That's why we encourage people to always lock their car doors."
