'180 Degrees South' Soundtrack was Dazed and Confused

Wild adventures plus psychedelic music equals the soundtrack to the documentary "180 Degrees South."

"180 Degrees South," a documentary directed by Chris Malloy, follows an adventurer Jeff Johnson and his journey through the wilderness.

The film follows him on his journey through Patagonia, Chile, where he tries to restore the wilderness of Patagonia and surfs huge waves along the way.

The documentary is inspired by the life and times of rock climber and surfer Yvon Chouinard.

The soundtrack to the film, "Conquerors of the Useless," was not as adventurous as the film.

Matter of fact, the soundtrack was flat out "Useless."

One would think, with such an adventurous movie, the soundtrack would represent what the movie evokes.

Granted, the movie backdrop was primarily based in the wilderness of Patagonia, but that doesn't mean that the whole soundtrack had to be about nature.

A snooze-fest at its best.

Although the majority of the soundtrack is filled with lackluster songs, there are a few songs on the soundtrack that stood out.

"Spring Wind" by Jack Johnson was a neat song. The lyrics embodied how love is heavily favored in the springtime. Once the season changes, your love or passion has moved on to someone else.

Touching and simultaneously empowering.

Another song on the soundtrack that was actually good was "Wave Goodbye" by Ugly Casanova, an American indie rock band. The lyrics and the guitar riffs made the song amazing. The song conveyed how we should say goodbye to the old and embrace the new.

The majority of the tracks on the soundtrack were by Ugly Casanova.

The band does live up to the "ugly" because their music is beyond ugly.

Photographer Emmett Mallory said the record is inspired by the stars in Southern Chile. He added that it was brought to life via a cabin in Minnesota, a garage in Hawaii and an attic in Portland.

Some things are just meant to stay in the attic, and clearly this soundtrack should have never seen the light of day.

If banjo-trippy, flower-power music is your type of music, feel free to pick up a copy of the "Conquerors of the Useless."

This soundtrack was made for the hippies of America. PEACE.
