Joe Hwang, senior in microbial biology, won the first Welcome Week Tiger Talent Show.
Of the nine contestants, Hwang took the top spot with his piano skills.
Hwang played everything from the Super Mario Brothers theme to concerto classics to popular songs of the the past several years in his performance.
Hwang also won "crowd favorite," a separate category that was determined by crowd applause.
"I came out here to just have fun," Hwang said, "and having friends come support me was really great. They yelled loud there at the end so I'm sure that helped."
Steven Jemison aka "Stoney G," freshman in mathematics, took second place with his a cappella performance of an original rap.
Rounding out the top three was Ben Thomas. Thomas wowed the audience with his solo performance of Scott Alan's "Kiss the Air."
The Tiger Talent Show was sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and concluded Welcome Week festivities.
