The Auburn Police Division responded to an anonymous call Sunday, in which a possible domestic incident in a vehicle was reported.
A patrol officer spotted a 2006 Scion and pulled it over on East Glenn Avenue near East University Drive.
The officer then saw Brian R. McGlynn, 28, of Auburn, in the back seat with his arms around the neck of a woman in the drivers seat while holding a knife. The officer fired one shot, which struck McGlynn in the arm.
The woman, a family member of the suspect, sped off and the officer pursued the car to East Alabama Medical Center. McGlynn was taken in to custody at the hospital, was treated Sunday and released to the police Monday.
He will be charged with first-degree kidnapping and third-degree domestic violence.
The officer is paid administrative leave until the incident has been investigated by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
