At approximately 11:48 a.m. a tornado warning was issued for Lee, Chambers and Macon counties.
According to the alert by the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a severe thunderstorm was detected near Notasulga, moving northeast at 45 mph.
Auburn classes were dismissed and students advised to take shelter.
An all clear was posted about at about 12:40 p.m.
Some areas of damage include Terrace Acres apartment complex on Green Street and downed trees and power lines on South College and Gay streets and Hamilton and Dean roads. Property damage was also reported near Alabama Highway 51 in Opelika.
The area remains under a tornado watch until 6 p.m.
